A PLASTIC COLLECTORS STORY

Making a difference for the health of our planet

Plastic pollution in the oceans is a great threat to local Indonesian fishermen and their daily income and livelihood. Many local families are heavily affected by a declining fish stock caused by plastic accumulating in the oceans and rivers. Listen to a local fisherman’s story about his fight against plastic pollution in the oceans and struggle to bring food on the table and give his children an education.

Social Impact

The removal of plastic is carried out by local communities, hereby local fishermen who support their income removing plastic from rivers and the ocean. Creating decent work and economic growth in local communities fights poverty and improve living conditions for the plastic collectors and their families.

Circular Economy

By recovering plastic waste from the ocean and processing the largest possible amount for recycling utilizes the longevity and purpose of the plastic already available and minimize the production of new virgin plastic. Recycling plastic uses less energy and emits fewer greenhouse gases compared to the production of virgin plastic.

Climate Change

The ocean produces more than 50% of our oxygen, absorbs CO2, and control weather patterns. It is the planet’s most important ecosystem with an abundance of life, a thriving biodiversity and home to thousands of marine specicies. All this is threatened by plastic debris. Removing ocean plastic is crucial to protect and restore our beloved blue ocean.
